Anishinabek Chi Naaknigewin – Letter of update from Grand Council Chief Patrick Mahdahbee and Deputy Grand Council Chief Glen Hare. Most recent version of the Constitution (Chi Naaknigewin) and Frequently Asked Questions during the consultation process.

The process has started to hopefully have the Chiefs in Assembly proclaim the document at the upcoming Grand Council Assembly of the Asishinabek Nation (Union of Ontario Indians) on June 5 – 7, 2012 in Sheguiandah First Nation on Manitoulin Island.

What is Duty to Consult? In Canadian law: Duty to consult means the Crown will respectfully deal with First Nations with honor and integrity, and include them in any decisions regarding their rights as an aboriginal, Inuit or Metis culture. The Crown is not allowed to adversely affect their rights in any way, this is the concept known as “honor of the Crown”.
